Port Blair, Aug 11: On the occasion of International Youth Day, the Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has highlighted a pressing concern that demands immediate attention for the betterment of the youths of the Islands.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma emphasized the vital role that youths play in shaping a vibrant society and urged the authorities to create an environment that nurtures their growth, development, and involvement in constructive activities.

He drew attention to the declining support being provided to local youth associations, particularly those operating from remote islands by the Department of Sports and Regional Sports Councils. He stressed that these associations were once recipients of essential sports kits, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship among the youth and acting as a deterrent against negative influences. Unfortunately, this practice has witnessed a decline in recent times, leaving many youth associations devoid of the incentives that play a significant role in their development.

Expressing his concern, the Member of Parliament appealed to the Chief Secretary to reinstate and strengthen the provisions of sports kits for local youth associations and youth clubs. He further proposed that a similar system be established to support youth associations involved in arts and other creative pursuits. These incentives, he asserted, would empower the youth and channel their energy towards constructive endeavors, thereby curbing the allure of harmful activities like substance abuse.
