Port Blair, Aug 13: In a Road Traffic Accident (RTA), that occurred on Aug 11, 2023, a 38-year-old male sustained crushed injury of left leg with ankle dislocation, and was presented to the GBPH/ANIIMS casuality with compromised vascularity of limb.

The patient was haemodynamically stabilised and taken for emergency surgical intervention. Without wasting any time, a team of Orthopedic surgeon and anaesthetist performed surgery on amputated part of the leg for 4 hours. Open reduction and fixation of ankle joint, lisfranc dislocation, ankle spanning external fixator application was done by a team.

With great effort, the team could store limb vascularity, sensation and joint could be stabilised. Patient’s amputated limb with complete blood circulation has been successfully restored by the team. After recovery, he will now be referred for plastic surgery to restore tendon loss and soft tissue coverage.

The patient’s limb and life has been salvaged due to high commitment and skill of the qualified team of specialists in GBPH.
