People pay tribute to local veers, express commitment to live life sticking to ‘Panch-Pran’

Diglipur, Aug 13: Joining the Nation in the “Meri Maati-Mera Desh'' campaign, a Shilaphalakam-the Memorial Plaque in memory of the sacrifices and contributions made by the local veers of the Sitanagar Panchayat was unveiled today. The Diglipur Panchayat Samiti Pramukh Shri Dipankar Mistry unveiled the Plaque in a ceremony held in the campus of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sitanagar. The Plaque has the names of the local veers Shri Sumanta Das, Shri Basant Topno, Shri Balai Halder, Shri Dhiran Podder, Shri Gopal Krishna Paul, Shri Balaram Dhar, Shri Jayanti Biswas, Shri Lazrus Kujur and Shri Abhiram Das. 

Addressing the gathering Shri Dipankar Mistry said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has called upon the citizens to adopt the motto “Nation First-Always First'' in their lives. We owe to the great sacrifices of freedom fighters and defence personnel who laid down their lives for the motherland. The forthcoming Independence day would take us to the crucial ‘Amrit Kaal’ of the country’s journey, aiming to make our country a developed Nation by the year 2047, he said.

The Pramukh and the Block Development Officer Shri M. Rajendra administered the oath of ‘Panch-Pran’ coined by the Prime Minister, which includes- ‘Making India a developed country’, ‘Root out the traces of colonial mindset’,’Take pride in our heritage’, ’To strive for National Unity’ and ‘To discharge duties honestly as citizens’. The People took the pledge holding the soil of their village in hands.

Shri Deepankar in his address appealed to the women to come forward and take part in the activities of social reforms. He cautioned the youth to stay away from the menace of drugs and channelize their energy in constructive works, helping their villages to attain prosperity.

After the Panch-Pran, the National flag was hoisted, followed by the National Anthem. The audience were spellbound by the melodious patriotic song presented by the students of Model School Sitanagar, before the oath taking ceremony. Smti R. Bindu, a senior teacher anchored the programme.

Earlier saplings of fruit bearing trees were planted in the school campus. The Programme was organized by the Department of Rural Development of Andaman & Nicobar Administration.
