Diglipur, Aug 17: The Independence day this year has knocked the door, calling upon the citizens to get ready to enter into the ‘Amrit kaal’, urging to take a pledge in the form of ‘Panch Pran’ to fulfil the long awaited dream of transforming India into a developed country. At the same time there is an appeal to the citizens to discharge their duties dedicatedly and honestly, keeping the interest of the ‘Nation First’

The gesture of the Sita Nagar Gram Panchayat is being applauded today by the people of the place for having the element of humanity in its thinking. The celebrations this year started in an unorthodox style in the morning hours. The Pradhan Shri Biplab Mondal along with his PRI’s colleagues, after the flag hoisting ceremony, decided to visit the homes of the elderly persons of the Panchayat to know about their well-being. Sita Nagar village, covering a big geographical area, is a large Panchayat with a population of 4000. Amidst rain the team spent hours visiting the veterans of their area, reaching at their doorsteps, and wishing them Independence day. Fruits, sweets and mementoes were presented to them. There were smiles on the faces of the senior citizens as the visit was a surprise to them. They were delighted, of the feeling that they still hold significance for the society. While ascertaining their health status, it was ensured by the Pradhan and his team that they are receiving the financial benefits given by the Government. The grievances of the aged pensioners were noted down to facilitate the redressal process.

In the evening, after the cultural program at the Panchayat campus, the Pradhan Shri Biplab Mondal in a candid talk with the ‘Andaman Chronicle’ said the Independence Day is most joyous occasion for every Indian, when a person shares the happiest moments with others. So he decided why not spend a few moments with the aged senior citizens of the Panchayat who are somewhere emotionally alone, he said. Sharing the experience of the visits, the Pradhan said that the seniors were happy to see us at their homes. Most of them are of above 80 years of age. Some of them have been famous personalities for their dedicated services in public life, during their younger days.

Mentioning the name of Shri Makhan Lal Mazumdar, a retired Compounder of Government Health Services, Biplab said that Shri Makhan Lal has earned tremendous goodwill for his tireless services to the local populace for around 40 years in working in Government Hospitals. It's good to see that he is keeping well.

Shri Gurupada Majhi, a Social Worker, Shri Satish Samaddar, Shri Sukhraj and all the other elderly persons greeted him with joy when he and his team reached out to them at their homes. He visited around 25 homes of such persons of his Panchayat. All their grievances and issues were heard today and will be taken care of on priority, he assured. They had spent their prime time serving the society and now it's our duty to take care of them, making them feel that they are an asset to the village and the younger generation has to seek their blessings, to carry forward the traditions and values of the very Indian Society, the young Pradhan said.

The gesture of Pradhan and his team keeps the hope alive, commented a villager. The common people elect their representatives with great expectations and it’s the duties of the public representatives to live up to the expectations, he said.

In modern society, everything has gone mechanical and the emotions too are no exceptions. But the ‘Panch-Pran’, on this Independence Day is still hopeful that the younger generation would follow its call of taking pride in our roots and to be committed for our duties towards our village, community and the Nation at large, optimistic Jawahar Lal Das, owner of a tea stall at Panchayat market said.

The Up-Pradhan Shri Biren Sardar, Sarpanch Shri Madhusudan Mazumder, Panchayat Samiti member Shri Ram Krishna Bairagi and other PRI’s members also accompanied Pradhan during the visit.
