Port Blair, Aug 17: It has been brought to the notice of the Administration of GB Pant Hospital that the patients admitted in the wards are being given sweets/fruits etc. by public and persons of eminence in the Islands for philanthropic reasons/charity/support to the hospital without bringing it to the notice of the management.

The philanthropists and general public have been requested to refrain from donating food articles to the patients admitted in the hospital. This is extremely important to inform that GBPH being a referral hospital for the entire Islands, admits patients with various health conditions that need strict monitoring of diet. The kitchen of the hospital has a Dietician who plans the diet for each and every patient based on their health conditions. Any addition to this diet in the form of sweets/ fruits/any eatable not allowed in the patients’ diet can do more harm to the patients by delaying their process of recovery or even deteriorating their present health condition.

Though the management of GBPH is extremely grateful and appreciates the gesture of support by the general public and philanthropist towards the hospital and patients, however it is essential to understand the criticality of health condition and patient care in the hospital.

Thus, the general public have been requested to strictly adhere to the rules of the institution for the benefit of the patients. In case, a donation of any food article/or any other nature has to be made, the Office of Medical Superintendent may be contacted for the larger benefit to the patients.
