Prothrapur, Aug 30: On the auspicious occasion of National Sport’s Day, a spirited one-day Football Knockout Tournament was hosted by WITH YOU in collaboration with the A&N Football Association and the Youths of Bird Line. The event took place at the Bird Line Ground in Prothrapur on 29th August 2023.
The tournament witnessed an exhilarating showcase of sportsmanship, as 22 enthusiastic teams participated in the football competition. Shri Sanjay Meshack, Secretary of the A&N Football Association extended a warm welcome and narrated the achievement and works of WITH YOU (NGO) to the esteemed Chief Guest and other dignitaries present. He highlighted the remarkable teamwork and dedication displayed by the participating teams.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Shri Kalaivanan, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District. Shri Kalaivanan, in his address, commended the participants for their unwavering dedication, remarkable team dynamics, unyielding determination and an unbreakable competitive spirit.
The pinnacle of the tournament was the gripping final match between Spark Boys team from Bird Line and Garacharma team. Both teams exhibited exceptional prowess, giving the spectators an unforgettable display of football skills. Ultimately, the Spark Boys team emerged victorious, clinching the knockout tournament title. As a token of their achievements, the winners and runners-up were honored with cash awards and trophy cups, celebrating their exceptional performance.
Adding to the fervor of the event, an enthralling exhibition match was organized featuring senior girls from Port Blair Tehsil and Ferrargunj Tehsil. These young athletes will proudly represent the A&N Islands in the forthcoming National-level competition. The event also provided an opportunity to felicitate former hockey players, acknowledging their contributions to the sporting community.
Later the Chief guests and other dignitaries took the stage to distribute gifts to the talented girls, recognizing their outstanding performance. Notable attendees included Smt. Radhika, Ward Councillor of Prothrapur, Shri Rayhaan, President of the Nicobar Youth Association, Smti Nitu, Shri Sathrak, Shri James, members of WITH YOU (NGO) and a large number of spectators all of whom contributed to the event’s success.
Concluding the event, Smti Ruchi Ahuja, Joint Secretary of WITH YOU, extended a heartfelt vote of thanks to all participants, supporters and collaborators who made this event a grand success. The National Sport’s Day Football Knockout Tournament proved to be a platform for camaraderie, sportsmanship, and the celebration of exceptional athletic talent.
