Port Blair, Aug 31: To create a positive and constructive platform for school students to visit Police Station, fostering an understanding of policing work and to forge a positive and healthy relationship between Police and students an interaction – cum-impartation session was organised at PS Campbell Bay. This ongoing scheme has been named as ‘Children -Police- Dialogue’.

The objectives of Children-Police-Dialogue are to create an enduring connection between Police and the youth, fostering a sense of trust, understanding, and cooperation for a safer Community.

The important components of this initiative are making the Police Station environment friendly for the students, giving them a brief introduction to the station’s function and facilities, organising interactive sessions through ice-breaking activities or small group discussions, encourage children to express their interest, thought, feeling and any insights gained during the visit. Under this initiative demonstrations or simulation on mock crime scene investigation, police vehicle tours, fire safety mock drill etc., will be given to showcase different aspects of policing work, and provide opportunities for children to share their experiences with their peers.

In August, 2023, as many as 2500 school students were invited at different Police Stations, Police Radio Stations and Fire Stations of A&N Islands, wherein they were apprised about the functioning of Police Stations, Police Line, Police Radio Stations & Fire Stations and sensitised about various Crimes, Traffic Rules & Regulation, Fire safety, POCSO Act and latest Cyber Crime trends. Apart from this, effective discourses on “Drug Abuse” and its hazardous impact on physical, mental, social and financial health on an individual were also delivered as to drive the student away from negative influence.

The A& N Police has been undertaking various social initiatives for the people of these islands. This initiative will not only help in removing any hesitation in the mind of student for Police, but also encourage them to disseminate any information regarding mishap or illegal activities to Police directly or indirectly.
