Port Blair, Sept. 1: It is a Proud moment for the Islanders as nine more chess players from A&N Islands viz. V Yashwant of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School Port Blair, R Tejass, of Sagritara school, Kavya Raj, K Jaivardhan Rao of VKV School, Galav Saha and Midhun Vettaiyaar P of Carmel Sr. Sec School, Manvender Rao, student of MBBS, Yadhava Rao and N Eswar Rao, have achieved their international Chess Rating as per the latest International Rating list published on 31st August 2023 by World Chess Federation (FIDE).
These chess players recently participated in the ‘AICF Chess for Everyone’ All India FIDE Rated Open Chess Tournament held in Port Blair from 11.08.2023 to 15.08.2023 and performed pretty well that led them to open the International Rating.
Meanwhile Kavya Raj has become the second girl chess player from the islands to open an International Chess Rating after R Kashthuri Bhai.
A FIDE rating system is a system used in chess by the World Chess Federation to estimate the strength of a player, based on their performance versus other players. In general, players' ratings go up if they perform better than expected and down if they perform worse than expected.
