Port Blair, Sept. 5: In order to ensure effective enforcement for safe and secure conduct of water sports activities in these Islands, TSETs (Tourist Safety Enforcement Team), DSETs (Diving Safety Enforcement Team) have been constituted and deployed at various beaches of these Islands by Department of Tourism. Further, Beach Officers and Lifeguards are also deployed at every tourist frequented beach for vigilant monitoring of water sports activities and safety and security of visiting tourists.

The Lifeguards, TSET, DSET and Beach Officers deployed at various beaches of these Islands are instrumental in maintaining, implementing and enforcing the water sports regulations of this UT Administration.

With the aim to identify the strength and weaknesses of Lifeguards, TSET, DSET & Beach Officers and to help them for their personal growth and also to overcome the weaknesses and enhance their strength, appraisal programmes were conducted on 4/9/2023 and 5/9/2023 in the conference hall of Directorate of IP&T. These appraisal programmes will serve as a basis for implementing working habits of the Lifeguards, TSET, DSET and Beach Officers.

The appraisal programmes were attended by DSETs of North Bay, Lifeguards, TSETs & Beach Officers of North Bay, Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex, Corbyn’s Cove Beach and Collinpur Beach, Port Blair.

During the appraisal programmes, the participants were educated by Shri Aqeeb Azeem, Technical Consultant, Directorate of IP&T and special invitee Capt. Govind Raju, from Directorate of Shipping Services, A&N Administration.

The Technical Consultant highlighted on IV Rules and importance of lifesaving equipments and its proper use. Capt. Govind Raju enlightened the participants about the importance of readiness of emergency response, types of fire onboard, type of emergency, importance of communication system during emergent situation etc.

Three Beach Officers, fifteen Lifeguards and fifteen TSET members participated in the two days appraisal training programme. Concerned officials of the Directorate of IP&T were also present in the training programme.
