Port Blair, Sept. 30: Together with the rest of the country, the 154th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation will be celebrated on 2nd October 2023 in A&N Islands too. The main function will be held at Gandhi Park at 8.15 am, during which, Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A & N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency will pay floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. This will be followed by prayers ‘Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye Je’/Ramdhuns by Teachers/Students of Education Department. A two minutes’ silence will be observed on the occasion.
All the Govt. Departments, Institutions, Autonomous Bodies, Corporation, Panchayat Pradhans, Voluntary Organizations and Villagers have been requested to create community assets by Shramdaan and conduct special drives for cleanliness during the month under ‘Swacchta Hi Seva Campaign’.
Further, the general public have been requested to refrain from slaughtering animals, killing of birds, fish catching and consuming liquor on this auspicious day. The 2nd October, 2023 will be observed as a ‘Dry Day’ in homage to the Father of the Nation.
