Port Blair, Oct. 1: On the occasion of International Day for Older Persons, the Nicobar District Police celebrated this significant day by inaugurating a transformative initiative, "We Care: Bridging Generations." The inauguration ceremony was graced by Sh. Devesh Chandra Srivastava, IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands, in the esteemed presence of Ms. Monika Bhardwaj, IPS, DIGP (L&O), and Sh. Manjeet, IPS, SP (Nicobar District).

The warm welcome extended to the DGP, A&N Islands and DIGP (L&O) and Senior Citizens by Sh. Manjeet, IPS, SP (Nicobar District) set the tone for a day dedicated to honoring and supporting the elderly members of our community.

Sh. Firoz Alam, DANIPS, SDPO, Campbell Bay, opened the program with a comprehensive introduction to the new initiative, "We Care: Bridging Generations." In addition to shedding light on this initiative, he provided valuable insights into the legal rights of Senior Citizens, emphasizing the need for their protection and well-being.

A key highlight of the event was the inauguration of a "Health Check-up Camp" in Campbell Bay, specifically tailored to cater to the health needs of senior citizens. Furthermore, a list of Blood donors from Police Sub-Division Campbell Bay was handed over to the Primary Health Center (PHC) in Campbell Bay. This list will prove instrumental in providing immediate assistance to elderly citizens requiring blood during medical treatment, reflecting the proactive and compassionate approach of the A&N Police.

Addressing the gathering, the DGP, Sh. Devesh Chandra Srivastava underscored the paramount importance of International Day for Older Persons. He applauded the proactive stance taken by the Nicobar District Police in launching the initiative, emphasizing its significance in building stronger bonds within the community. The DGP extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the Senior Citizens present and called upon the younger generation to honor and care for elders.

The DGP stressed that the needs of senior citizens extend beyond physical assistance to include emotional support. He urged all police personnel to be attentive to grievances and other requests, working in close coordination with the A&N Administration to ensure the welfare of our elders.

During the program, senior citizens and police officials from PS Campbell Bay, PS Nancowry, PS Katchal, and PS Car Nicobar joined virtually, demonstrating the widespread commitment to the "We Care: Bridging Generations" initiative.

In his closing remarks, the DGP inspired everyone present to elevate this initiative to new heights, fostering a culture of empathy, respect, and care for senior citizens across Nicobar District. Program ended with vote of thanks given by SI, Deepak Mukherjee, SHO, PS Campbell Bay.
