Port Blair, Oct. 5: A two days training programme on ‘Awareness for control, elimination and eradication of vector borne diseases such as Dengue, Chikungunya, Malaria, Lymphatic Filaria etc., and related vectors in Andaman was conducted for the 3rd year Zoology students of JNRM on Oct.3&4. The training program was conducted by Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme (IDSP) DHS.

The programme included presentation and demonstration on various vector borne diseases and their importance in A&N Islands. The students were oriented about vector borne diseases, identification of vectors and its preventive and control measures.

Dr. Avijit Roy, Joint Secretary /SSO, IDSP and Shri M Kaliyamoorthy, Entomologist oriented the students on vector borne diseases while Shri V.K. Sahu, Asst. Prof. Dept. of Zoology, JNRM presented lecture on ‘Economic entomology: Beneficial and Noxious insects’. The practical demonstration was carried out in the Laboratory of Zoology Department.

Altogether 36 students were participated in this training programme which was concluded with field visit for house and container checking to investigate/identify mosquito larvae as well as pupae at Machi line area near RGT Road.
