Car Nicobar, Oct. 10: As part of Sankalp Saptah, Krishi Mahotsav under Aspirational Block Programme was inaugurated by Shri Lionel Nicomede, Chief Captain, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar in the Community Hall of Perka village, Car Nicobar yesterday. Shri   Martin Luther, Secretary, Tribal Council, Shri Paul David, First Headman, Perka village and Shri Manuah Thomas, First Headman, Big Lapathy were present on the occasion.

Shri Lionel Nicomede, Chief Captain, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar and Shri Martin Luther, Secretary, Tribal Council addressed various issues faced by the farmers and motivated them to adopt the latest technologies of farming in agriculture and allied sector, so as to improve their livelihood and uplift their standard of living.

Shri Rumman Mohd. Muthair, AA welcomed the gathering and briefed about the significance of Krishi Mahotsav as part of Sankalp Saptah which is being celebrated in Aspirational Block, Car Nicobar as a weeklong national programme. Smti D.Laxmi, AA explained about the various schemes and flagship programmes of the Department of Agriculture. The representative of allied Departments also briefed the farmers about various schemes implemented by their respective Departments.

Shri Abdul Hameed, AFA explained about the Gobar Dhan Yojana and its various aspects and significance in creating a safe environment and providing better livelihood.

The exhibition of Departmental farm produce including fruits, spices and planting materials were displayed. SHGs also exhibited various items including vegetable and fruits, homemade food items like ladoos, fish pickles, coconut oils, crabs and handicrafts. The primary aim of the event was to make the farmers aware of the latest technologies and scheme in the agricultural sector. The staff of Agriculture Department, UTATMA and more than fifty farmers, six Self Help Groups participated in the programme.
