Ograbraj, Feb 26: The diligent efforts of South Andaman Police led to the successful confiscation of suspected venison and wild boar meat in Dinghyghat at Collinpur. Acting on crucial information provided by Shri Arshdeep Singh Panwar, SDPO Bambooflat, a team swiftly assembled and conducted an operation resulting in the detention of one person namely Ashit Mondal and seizure of the suspected meat.

On 24th February 2024, at approximately 1030 Hrs, SI Devanand Pathak, SHO PS Ograbraj, received information regarding the possession of suspected venison and wild boar meat in Collinpur Dinghyghat. Acting on this tip-off a team led by ASI Ram Singar Yadav, I/c OP Tirur, intervened at the scene where they spotted an individual, Ashit Mondal in possession of the suspected meat.

Despite attempts to conceal the meat, the diligent efforts of the team led to the recovery of two plastic buckets containing approximately 9.645 Kgs of suspected venison and 4.220 kgs of suspected wild boar meat. Ashit Mondal, a fisherman residing in Collinpur, confessed to acquiring the meat from a person named Prokash of Wandoor.

Following proper protocol, the seized meat, along with the buckets and machete were confiscated on the spot at about 1145 hrs, and Ashit Mondal was detained. The information was promptly relayed to the concerned Forest Officials and in their presence, the suspected meat was weighted.

The successful operation exemplifies the dedication of the South Andaman Police in combating illegal wildlife trade and preserving biodiversity. The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Shri Arshdeep Singh Panwar, SDPO Bambooflat, Shri Vishesh Dhatterwal, SDPO Bambooflat (I/c) and under overall supervision of Smti Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
