Port Blair, March 20: A joint mock exercise on earthquake and fire incident was conducted in at  ISTRAC, Dollygunj, Port Blair today in coordination with the Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Police, A&N Fire & Emergency Services, Directorate of Health Services and District Administration by creating real time earthquake and fire simulation scenarios and tested the preparedness level and response system of CISF Team of ISTRAC and also observed safe evacuation, search & rescue and fire extinguish operations, first aid along with medical support to manage the fire incident scenario in the ISTRAC.

Immediately, on the receipt of information of earthquake and fire incident, the Asst. Commandant, CISF, ISTRAC triggered their response mechanism to tackle the emergency situation at ISTRAC and informed the same to ERSS, SEOC, Fire & Health Control Rooms etc. Meanwhile, the officials and CISF were activated to manage the earthquake disaster and douse the fire. All officials and staff of ISTRAC were evacuated to the identified safer location. The Fire Service and Medical team reached the incident spot with fire tender and ambulances along with teams to control the emergency situation. The search & rescue team searched the all rooms and found 3 staff members trapped in collapsed building and were safely rescued by the CISF and Fire team. The victims were handed over to medical team for further treatment and hospitalization.

The mock drill was called off at 1200 hrs, followed by a debriefing session wherein the observers of the mock drill had explained the findings and gaps of the mock drill. The In-charge, ISTRAC and Asst. Commandant, CISF has appreciated the efforts of the staff and other teams of various Departments for their active participation in this mock drill. The Police, Fire, Health and Disaster Management Officers were urged to check their preparedness regularly and provide trainings to their teams with basic skill on safety measures to cope up any crisis in near future.
