Port Blair, March 22: The Valedictory function of two days Kisan Mela on the theme: Agripreneurship Development in Islands concluded today on 21st March, 2023. More than 500 farmers representing different clusters of villages from South, Middle, North Andaman & Nicobar participated in the event.

While addressing farmer audience the Chief Guest, Dr. N. K. Krishna Kumar., Ex-DDG, Horticulture Science, ICAR-New Delhi deliberated on the prospects of linking the avocation with the upcoming National and International tourism inclusive of all the components like crop, livestock, culture, heritage etc. The success of the same will be visible only when like-minded farmers have join to organize, present and run the business themselves. He shared his experience of tribal village of Odisha, Goa, Thailand and many other which has gained value and recognition to the enterprises/places/country. He concluded his speech with a message to brand the product and own the royalty.

Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI in his Presidential address expressed his happiness on the successful conduct of the KisanMela. He appreciated the farmers and other stakeholder’s participation in large number on both the days which signifies the urge for learning and sharing of new ideas/innovations for upliftment of social and economical status.

During the function 15 farmers were felicitated for successful adoption of technologies in agriculture and allied fields and becoming Agriprenuers representing from three districts and Regional Station, Minicoy by the Chief Guest Dr. N. K. Krishna Kumar., Ex-DDG, Horticulture Science, ICAR-New Delhi. Later the awardee farmer on scientific pig farming from Car Nicobar, backyard poultry from South Andaman, organic spices and bee keeping from North Andaman shared their experience as an Agri entrepreneur.

At the outset Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, Principal Scientist, Head KVKs& Convener of the Kisan Mela presented brief report on the activities conducted during two days Mela & also proposed vote of thanks.
