Port Blair, March 22: The Chief Electoral Officer, Shri B.S. Jaglan, IAS visited ‘Election Permission Cell’, Braille EPIC preparation Cell set up in the Office premises of the Returning Officer, A&N Islands Parliamentary Constituency today and interacted with the staff. The staff explained the procedure of various permission being granted and procedure of Braille EPIC preparation for all visually impaired electors.

On announcement of General Election to Lok Sabha - 2024, the Model Code of Conduct has become operational. To grant permissions to the Political Parties and candidates for public meeting, rallies, processions, loud speaker and use of vehicles for election campaigning etc. a single window ‘Election Permission Cell’ has been set up in District Office for ease of candidates and political parties.

To ensure the enhanced accessibility in electoral process, the Election Commission of India directed that Braille EPIC shall be issued to all visually impaired electors. To facilitate a Braille Script Centre has been set up in the premises of District Office to prepare the Braille Script EPICs issued to all visually impaired electors free of cost with the same EPIC number already issued to him/her to exercise their right to vote in the ensuing elections to Lok Sabha - 2024.
