Ban Enacted Under Representation of People's Act, 1951 and Other Laws

Port Blair, April 4: In terms of the provisions contained under Section 135 C of the Representation of the People Act 1951 and read with Rule 86 of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Excise Regulation 2012, Hon’ble Lt. Governor Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands hereby orders the following days to be observed as ‘Dry Days’ throughout the Andaman and Nicobar Islands:

Date of Poll (General Election 2024): 19/04/2024

Dry Days to be observed from 17/04/2024 (6.00 PM onwards) to 19/04/2024 (till 6.00 PM)

Date of counting (Dry Day to be Observed) 04/06/2024

No liquor shops, hotel, restaurants, club and establishments selling/serving liquor shall be permitted to sell/serve liquor to anyone whosoever on the aforesaid days.

This order is also applicable to IMFL vending licensees i.e. ANIIDCO, CSD Units (Unit Running Canteens), all Defence Canteens, Police Mess and all private bar licensees.

The Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands, Shri B S Jaglan, IAS has directed all concerned authorities to take appropriate action and enforce dry day declaration in letter & sprit and assist the election authorities for conducting smooth, free & fair elections in this UT.
