Port Blair, April 15: With a steadfast commitment to preserving the sanctity and fairness of the democratic process and to combat the potential misuse of Short Message Services (SMSs) and various social media platforms during elections, a dedicated WhatsApp number ‘9531856083’ has been made available to the public by A & N Police, in consonance with the direction of Election Commission of India (ECI).

Citizens have been strongly urged to promptly report any instances of objectionable messages, providing essential details such as the sender's number etc. to this specialized platform. Any such malicious online activity may lead to prosecution of offenders.

Upon receipt of reports, the Andaman & Nicobar Police will initiate a thorough investigation, leveraging the full extent of legal provisions outlined in the Indian Penal Code, Representation of the People Act, 1951, Information Technology Act-2000, Conduct of Election Rules, 1961, and various directives issued by the Election Commission of India, from time to time. This will ensure that perpetrators of electoral misconduct or online crimes are held accountable for their actions.

The cooperation and vigilance of citizens play a pivotal role in upholding the integrity of the electoral process. Therefore, A&N Police has appealed to all members of the community to remain vigilant and report any instances of SMS or social media misuse promptly, to ensure free, fair and peaceful election in the Islands.
