MCC restriction on presence of political functionaries in constituency after the campaign period is over

Port Blair, April 17: The Election Commission of India has laid down strict instruction for compliance during the period of 48 hours ending with the hours fixed for the conclusion of the poll, to ensure level field playing towards conduct of free, fair, peaceful and inducement-free elections;

The Commission taking into cognizance of the matter has instructed that after the closure of campaign period effective under this constituency from 17/04/2024 (Wednesday) at 1800 hrs. onwards, all political functionary's/party workers/procession functionaries/campaign-functionaries/ star campaigners, who have been brought from outside the constituency and who are not electors of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency, should not continue to remain in this constituency forthwith as their presence after campaign ends may undermine the atmosphere for free and fair poll.

The ibid instruction remains incumbent upon all Political functionaries (other than the election agent) who are not electors of this Constituency to leave the Constituency immediately.

Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, District Magistrate, District of South Andaman in exercise of the powers vested upon him under section 144 of Cr. PC 1973 has directed all political functionaries (other than the election agent) to leave the A&N Islands Parliamentary Constituency after the campaign period is over immediately, failing which, deemed action shall be taken against the concerned under the extant provisions under the statute.
