Port Blair, April 23: In pursuance of direction of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Mohanlal-Vs-Union of India and Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Rules (Seizure, Storage, Sampling and Disposal), 2022, Drug disposal for 102 case properties from various police stations was carried out from 16/04/2024 to 22/04/2024 in three occasions by the CID Unit under the supervision of the UT Level Drug Disposal Committee chaired by Smt Varsha Sharma (IPS), DIGP (L&O). The committee members included Sh. Rajeev Ranjan (IPS), SP (CID), Sh. Mohd. Irshad Haider, (IPS), SP(HQ), and Kumar Abhishek, DySP (CID) along with the Officers from the A&N Pollution Control Board, Envirocheck (for measuring emitting pollutants), and GB Pant Hospital.

A total of 102 case properties were destroyed, comprising of 79 Kgs of Ganja, 77 Kgs of Methamphetamine, 29 Cannabis Plants, 07 gm of Charas, 22 bottles of Codeine based syrup and 255 tablets of Nitrazepam & Alprazolam which have been destroyed in the Incinerator at G.B. Pant Hospital.

The entire destruction process was recorded on video and carried out meticulously, adhering to all legal and procedural requirements. The Andaman and Nicobar Police are taking rigorous measures against the drug abuse in these islands. This drug disposal initiative signifies steadfast dedication of A&N Police in fostering a drug-free community.
