Shaheed Dweep, May 20: A highly beneficial multi-specialty health camp was conducted on the 19th of May 2024, at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Shaheed Dweep. This significant health initiative was a collaboration between the NGO WITH YOU, the Directorate of Health Services, and Dr. Ritika's Diagnostic Center. The Gram Panchayat of Shaheed Dweep also extended its full support to ensure the camp’s success.

The camp was inaugurated by Smti. M. Rajini, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, who was the Chief Guest at the event. Shri Sharfuddin, Up Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad served as the Guest of Honour. Other distinguished guests included Smti Champa Das, Pramukh of Panchayat Samity, Port Blair, Smti Pinky Das, Pradhan of Shaheed Dweep and members of NGO. In her opening remarks, Smti. Rajini expressed her pleasure at the turnout of six specialist doctors of various disciplines and encouraged the continuation of such camps to serve the rural communities of South Andaman.

The President of WITH YOU highlighted the NGO’s commitment to providing humanitarian services and confirmed the organization's plan to host future health camps in rural areas. Dr. Bajpayee, Chief Medical Officer at PHC Shaheed Dweep, welcomed the attendees and assured full support and coordination throughout the event.

Specialists who offered their services included Dr. Maneel Patel (Radiologist), Dr. Supria Roy (General Physician), Dr. Prithviraj Patil (Orthopedic Surgeon), Dr. (Major) Sameer Samuel (ENT Specialist), Dr. Juhee Yadav (Gynecologist), and Dr. Rajbarath (General Medicine). The camp facilitated on-the-spot ultrasounds and served nearly 100 individuals, including pregnant women and the elderly.

Adding to the health camp’s activities, 20 student trainees from GD Goenka Health Academy performed a 'Nukkad Naatak' (street play) on breast cancer awareness at the Panchayat community hall. Furthermore, a poster-making competition on the same topic was held, with prizes awarded to the winners, enhancing community engagement and education.

The camp was not only a platform for addressing immediate health needs but also an educational hub that significantly impacted the local community’s awareness and understanding of health issues. The collective efforts of all involved were greatly appreciated by the local residents and the members of the Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs).
