Port Blair, May 26: The Hindu Rashtra Shakti (HRS) has called upon the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to initiate steps to charter private airlines for the benefit of the islanders.

In a letter to the Lt. Governor, Shri Rakeshwar Lall, State President, HRS brought to his notice the current exorbitant fare price for travel between Port Blair and Mainland, which is exceeding Rs. 39,000 across all airlines.

Sighting examples of the exorbitant airfares, the HRS State President suggested chartering private airline to facilitate more affordable mode of transportation for the islanders. “By transferring the subsidy fare of mainland vessel travel, it comes to approximately Rs. 3000- 5000 /- per head for the islanders”, said Lall. He also suggested to make Local Certificate / Islander Card mandatory for availing the benefit.
