Mayabunder, May 27: Under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman District, Shri Dilkhush Meena, IAS, the Swachh Panchayat Abhiyan has been intensified with a series of cleanliness activities aimed at enhancing sanitation and hygiene across various Panchayats in the district. This initiative, part of the broader Swachh Bharat Abhiyan seeks to involve local communities in sustainable cleanup and awareness efforts.

The campaign has seen robust participation from local leaders, Panchayat members, and residents, all working collaboratively to improve their surroundings.

The Key activities undertaken include:

Cleaning of Drainage System: This activity has been taken on priority by the all the Panchayats, as during the rainy season, almost all the drains gets clogged and issues of water logging area are reported. All Panchyats have cleaned the drainages in various Wards during the last 10 days which has ensured smooth flow of rain water.

Cleaning of Public Spaces: Dedicated teams, along with volunteers from the community are engaged in extensive cleaning of public toilets, public parks, and communal areas to ensure a cleaner environment.

Proper Waste Disposal: Efforts were made to ensure proper segregation and disposal of waste. Special focus was placed on educating the community about waste management practices and proper management of solid waste management clusters are being done.

Awareness Drives: Awareness campaigns highlighting the importance of sanitation were conducted. These included public meetings to educate residents about the adverse effects of littering and open defecation.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness as a continuous effort rather than a one-time activity. "A clean environment is essential for the health and well-being of our community. This campaign is a step towards ensuring a sustainable and cleaner future for all”, he remarked.

The Swachh Panchayat Abhiyan will continue to roll out similar activities in the coming weeks, with plans to cover more areas and involve a larger segment of the population. The Administration is committed to making significant strides towards achieving the goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and fostering a culture of cleanliness and hygiene in every household.
