Port Blair, June 2: Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to combating drug-related activities, the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, with the assistance of the Dog Squad, executed two targeted anti-narcotics operations on May 31, 2024, resulting in significant seizures and arrests.

In the first operation, acting on specific intelligence input, a police team from the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, consisting of SI Mohd Rahil Islam, PC/2836 M. Raja Rao, and LPC/2661 R. Kavita, along with the Dog Squad team, including PC/167 Ashim Ray, Dog Handler with Sniffer Dog 'ORAN', and PC/1297 Anand Lall, intercepted Smt. Sabita Das (53), W/o Shri Akhil Das, a private labourer, resident of Saudpara, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. Sabita Das, who arrived Port Blair from Kolkata on May 31, 2024, via Air India, was found in possession of 995 grams of Ganja, which was clandestinely concealed in her bag. The contraband was seized, and the accused was arrested on the spot after observing all codal formalities.

In the second operation, another police team from the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, consisting of ASI Mohammed Rafique, HC/786 Abdul Salam, and PC/1173 Ratan Das, along with the same Dog Squad team, intercepted Jogesh Biswas, a resident of Kalapathar near Kangaroo Bar, Sippighat. Jogesh Biswas, who arrived at Port Blair from Kolkata on May 31, 2024, via an Air India flight, was found in possession of 1140 Alprazolam 0.5 mg tablets, clandestinely concealed in his bag. The tablets were seized, and the accused was arrested on the spot, after observing all codal formalities.

Both raids were conducted under the supervision of Shri Vishesh Dhatterwal, DANIPS, Dy.SP, Narcotics, and the overall supervision of Shri Mohd. Irshad Haider, IPS, SP (CID), A&N Islands. Cases under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985 have been registered at the Anti-Narcotics Police Station and further investigations are currently in progress.
