Port Blair, June 3: On promulgation of Andaman &Nicobar Value Added Tax Regulation, 2017, the Andaman & Nicobar Value Added Tax Rules, 2020 has been framed for the implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) in A & N Islands.

Accordingly, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration vide Notification No. 05/2022  dated 05th  January, 2022 has designated Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies as Value Added Tax Officer (VATO), Inspector of Cooperative Societies as Assistant Value Added Tax Officer (AVATO) and Sub-Inspector of Cooperative Societies as Inspector of VAT respectively to carry out the assessment of VAT, computation and imposition of penalties, computation of interest due or owed, anti-tax evasion etc. under Value Added Tax Regulation, 2017 and the Value Added Tax Rules, 2020 in A & N islands.

All the Bar owners, CSD canteens, POL outlets and all stakeholders are required to comply with VAT regulations, including accurate reporting of sales, timely filing of VAT returns, and payment of taxes as applicable to VAT Department (DC office, South Andaman). Failure to adhere with VAT regulations may result in penalties and legal consequences as stipulated under the VAT Regulation and Rules of A & N Islands.

Therefore, all stakeholders have been requested to familiarize themselves with the VAT requirements and cooperate fully with the designated Officials to facilitate the smooth implementation of VAT in A & N Islands.
