Port Blair, June 5: World Environment Day, 2024 was celebrated on 5th June at IGNOU, Regional Centre Port Blair. This event was organized in collaboration with Department of Environment & Forests, Port Blair. The progrmme was inaugurated by Shri Sandeep Divyajyoti Behera, IFS, DСА, Wildlife, Department of Environment & Forests, A & N Islands. This was organized to inculcate awareness for the conservation of earth for the future generations.

In the inaugural address Shri. Sandeep Divyajyoti Behera, IFS emphasized the need of the day for conservation, the sustainable development and the role of IGNOU in the overall development of the state through education.

Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob, Regional Director presided over the meeting. Dr. Sudarshan Raja and Dr Uday Kumar, Assistant Regional Directors addressed the gathering. The chief guest also announced the launching of ‘one family, one IGNOU learner programme. Through this programme IGNOU regional centre aims to promote the educational system in the most backward regions of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

IGNOU Regional Centre is also planning for massive drive with the help of forest officials and other government machinery for imparting an educational culture in the state. After the program a plantation drive was organized inside the IGNOU Regional Centre campus. The learners and the office bearers of the centre planted fruit trees in the IGNOU campus.
