Bambooflat, June 5: In an effort to promote environmental sustainability, Society for Promotion of Serve Humanity Among Youths (SPARSHA), a not-for-profit NGO registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, teamed up with the South Andaman Division of the Department of Environment and Forests, A&N Administration organised a Tree Plantation Drive at Rajiv Nagar, under Gram Panchayat Bambooflat-II, on the occasion of World Environment Day.

Shri A Soundar Pandian, ACF, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, Shri Pandian highlighted the critical role of forests in sustaining life and emphasized the importance of nurturing the planted saplings to ensure they grow into mature trees that will, in turn, support human life. He also planted a sapling to mark the occasion.

Shri Debkumar Bhadra, President SPARSHA, provided an overview of the NGO's activities and reaffirmed their dedication to environmental conservation. He expressed gratitude to the Divisional Forest Officer, South Andaman, for supplying the saplings and tree guards to protect them from stray animals. He also extended thanks to the volunteers and villagers who participated in the event.

Alongwith Shri Debkumar Bhadra, Shri Anand Kumar Forest Guard, Somen Talukdar General Secretary SPARSHA, Shri R Shanmuga Sundaram, Executive Member SPARSHA, Shri P Venket Ravana, a prominent citizen of Rajiv Nagar and a significant number of villagers and volunteers, planted 15 shade-bearing avenue tree species, provided by the South Andaman Division of the Department of Environment and Forests, along the roadside at Rajiv Nagar under Gram Panchayat Bambooflat-II.

The event underscored the collective effort required to protect and preserve the environment and served as a reminder of the ongoing commitment needed to ensure a sustainable future for all.
