Port Blair, June 12: The Chairman of ANTCC Campaign Committee Mr. TSG Bhasker has expressed his concern over the recurring problem of floods that have been causing widespread damage and destruction to the people of Diglipur and their livelihood from last 4 to 5 years.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary on Wednesday, Shri. TSG Bhasker firstly thanked the A&N Administration for taking immediate action and providing relief to the people affected with flood in Diglipur.

He highlighted that such natural calamities are causing immense harm and suffering to the people of Diglipur on yearly basis, yet no solution has been formulated by A&N Administration so far.

He said "In the recent years, we have witnessed numerous instances of floods in Diglipur region, which have led to huge loss of property and crops of many people. The situation becomes even more critical for the poor and vulnerable sections of society who have no means to cope with such situations".

Mr. Bhasker also suggested some of the measures that can be considered. These measures include Building of flood resistant infrastructure, Effective and efficient disaster management system, removing illegal structures/buildings that seem to block the drainage system, locate gutters that need to be drained, Timely cleaning and widening of drains, identify places that demand high attention for waste collection and Marking of necessary places as flood prone areas.

He requested the Chief Secretary to take urgent steps to address the issue of Flood in Diglipur and ensure that adequate measures are taken to prevent such flooding in future.
