Port Blair, June 13: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) welcomes the students to attain a dual degree alongside their existing degree programmes in various Higher education institutions. As per UGC regulations, a student can pursue two academic programmes, one in full time physical mode and another in the Open and Distance Learning (ODL)/Online mode simultaneously. Flexibility and student-centered educational system have always been the hallmarks of IGNOU as it provides students a golden chance to attain dual degrees in their areas of interest across India. It paves the way for multiple job opportunities in various sectors. Any UG degree student or PG student can opt for a second UG/PG degree in IGNOU based on their qualifications. Those who are doing ODL course can also take another course in the next admission cycle. The admission for undergraduate, post graduate programmes, diploma and certificate for July session is already in full swing.

Pursuing dual degrees could also provide the students with a broader base of competencies compared to a single degree programme. It can prepare them better for taking on jobs or for starting up business ventures on their own. Dual degrees allow a student to focus on two areas of expertise, either from similar disciplines in the same faculty or two contrasting but complementary fields. The learners can apply for programmes in science, humanities, arts, commerce, language, health science, environment etc. through online mode for ODL. Transfer Certificate(TC) is not required for applying for the programmes. There is no age limit for learners to take admission in IGNOU. It offers master’s degree programmes, bachelor’s degree programmes, PG diploma, diploma and certificate programmes in various disciplines. Its wide range of courses cater to the needs of every section of the people- youth, old, housewife, employed or unemployed persons. The greatest advantage of IGNOU system is that one can attain the aforesaid degrees/certificates/diplomas irrespective of their location in the island. All the courses conducted by IGNOU are recognized by the University Grant Commission of India. Rest assured, those who join IGNOU dual degree programmes attain high employability skills and more opportunities in the competitive arena.
