Port Blair, June 16: The month of June is being observed as Anti Malaria Month throughout the country. As part of the observance, the NVBDCP Unit, Directorate of Health Services conducted a bike rally awareness programme today from the National Memorial Cellular Jail to Bathu Basti in coordination with the Directorate of Health Services and UT Health Mission.

At the outset, Dr. B. Ajit Kumar, Deputy Director (Malaria)/Joint Secretary (NVBDCP) welcomed the gathering. Dr Suja Antony, Director of Health Services was the chief guest on the occasion. The programme was also attended by other dignitaries and participants.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director, Health Services highlighted about the significance of observance of Anti Malaria Month and the theme for this year being ‘Malaria for more Equitable World’. She also flagged off the Bike Rally in the presence of Dr. S. Sunil Kumar, CMO (CMS) and Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, A&N AIDS Control society on the occasion.

About 50 people participated in the rally which passed through South Point, Shadipur, Nayagaon, Chakkargaon, Corbyn Chowk, Austinabad, Prothrapur, Bathu Basti, Old Pahargaon, School Line, Lamba Line, Dairy Farm, Junglighat, Goalghar, Middle Point, Clock Tower and returned back to the Directorate of Health Services. During the rally, participants distributed pamphlets carrying different health education messages on Malaria and also displayed placard for awareness among the general public.
