Port Blair, June 16: The State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), A&N Islands and District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands organized National Lok Adalat in the District Court Building/ ADR centre-‘PRAYAS’, Port Blair and Sub-Divisional Court Complex at Mayabunder and Diglipur today.

The National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, Chief Justice, High Court at Calcutta and Hon’ble Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury, Judge, High Court, Calcutta and Hon’ble Additional Zonal Judge, A&N Islands through video conferencing in the august presence of Hon’ble Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya, Judge, High Court, Calcutta and Hon’ble Zonal Judge, and Executive Chairman, SLSA, A&N Islands, Hon’ble Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee, Judge, High Court, Calcutta today.

The Registrar, Circuit Bench of Calcutta High Court at Port Blair and Member Secretary, SLSA, A&N Islands, Shri Bhavani Shanker Sharma, Learned District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA, A&N Islands, Shri Sudhir Kumar and other Judicial Officers, Secretary (Law) incharge, Shri B.S Jaglan, Principal, Andaman Law College, Secretary, A&N Bar Association, members of Bar and members of staff were also present on the occasion.

728 pre-litigation cases including 578 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases and 37 cases pending in different courts at Port Blair were referred to the National Lok Adalat out of which 92 pre-litigation bank recovery cases including 26 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were disposed of by the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair. Disposing of 92 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 2,19,65,376/- have been settled at Rs. 1,36,37,985/- (Rupees One Crore Thirty-Six Lakhs Thirty-Seven Thousand Nine Hundred Eighty-Five Only), thus paving a benefit of Rs. 83,27,391/- to the bank loan borrowers.  A sum of Rs.22,74,060/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 763 Criminal cases a sum of Rs. 41,100/- was realized as fine.

In Mayabunder, 100 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were referred out of which 05 cases were disposed of and settled at Rs. 6,200/- which was realized on the spot. 151 cases pending in different courts were taken up out of which 83 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 1,80,400/- was realized. In Diglipur, 201 pre-litigation cases were referred out of which 21 pre-litigation BSNL cases were disposed of and settled at Rs. 16,750/- which was realized on the spot. 34 cases pending in different courts were taken up out of which 27 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 58,050/- was realized.

The District Legal Services Authority has constituted four benches at Port Blair, one Bench at Mayabunder and one bench at Diglipur.  The Benches at Port Blair were presided over by Shri Neyaz Alam, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Port Blair, Shri Diptendra Nath Mitra, Judge, Family Court, Port Blair, Md. Mohibulla, Joint Civil Judge (Sr. Division), Port Blair, and Shri. Indranil Ray, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Additional Court, Port Blair sitting with Smti G. Mini, Advocate, Shri Satish Kumar Mishra, Advocate, Shri P.K. Bala, Advocate and Shri. K. Mohammed Sheheer, Advocate, Smti Anuradha Lall, Social Worker, Smti. Komal Anand, Social Worker, Shri. K. Vijay Kumar, Social Entrepreneur and Shri. P. Mujib Rehman, Social Worker. The bench at Mayabunder was presided over by Shri. Subhajit Basu, Additional District and Sessions Judge, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Shri Akash Bepari, Advocate and Smti Mary Colostica Kujur, Social Worker (Samithi Member). The bench at Diglipur was presided over by Shri. Somnath Das, Judicial Magistrate First Class, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Shri Biswajit Mondal, Advocate and Smti. Rina Biswas, Social Worker.
