Port Blair, July 1: On 30th June, 2024, an awareness program was held in collaboration with Ward No. 01 Councilor, Mr. Shahul Hameed and local NGOs focusing on the critical issue of suicidal death. Under the theme "Celebrate Life, It's Precious," the event aimed to spread awareness, foster community engagement and highlight the importance of suicide prevention.

The program was honored by the presence of the Chief Guest, Smti. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, SP(D)SA alongside Dr. Mitesh Behari, Consultant Neuropsychiatrist, MBBS, MD (PSY) and Inspector Rasheeda, SHO PS Chatham. They collectively underscored the critical importance of mental health awareness and robust community support in suicide prevention. Smti. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, SP (D) SA particularly emphasized the necessity of early intervention, fostering open dialogues and ensuring the availability of accessible resources for individuals grappling with mental health challenges.

Approximately 100 participants attended the event, reflecting the community's commitment to addressing this theme. The program included informative sessions, discussions and resources to support those in need. Experts provided insights into recognizing warning signs of suicidal behavior, offering help and connecting individuals with appropriate mental health services.

This initiative marks a significant step in promoting mental well-being and reducing stigma surrounding mental health challenges. It also serves as a reminder that everyone's life is valuable and that reaching out for help is a sign of strength not weakness. By raising awareness and fostering a supportive community, we can work together to prevent suicides and celebrate the preciousness of life.
