In order to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19 in Port Blair City, PBMC has been taking the following initiatives with an active participation of Elected Representatives:-

WELFARE MEASURES

To acknowledge the great efforts of Sanitation Workers, Smti S.Selvi, Councillor, Ward No. 05, PBMC distributed essential commodities  viz. dry Ration items in Ward No. 05.

PBMC has been arranging breakfast/Lunch across various Wards in collaboration with Civil Society Organization. Breakfast was distributed in Ward No 13, Ward No. 17 and Ward No.18. Lunch was arranged for the Sanitary Mazdoors by Shri L.Moorthy, Nominated Councillor, in Ward No.4 and by Smti Anusia Devi, Councillor at Ward No 9.

DRAIN DE –SILTING

Every year before the onset of Monsoon, PBMC carries out a Major drain desilting works to prevent flooding. As a part this exercise desilting work near Marine Hall, Mohanpura Market, Bus Stand, Main Office of PBMC and near Delanipur School were taken-up by PBMC on 07/05/2020.       

WATER WORKS

On 12/05/2020, an inspection was carried out by Chairperson, Secretary and Officials of the Council at the Brijgung Check Dam located in the Quarry area. PBMC has taken-up the restoration works and raw water will be drawn from the above source for treatment and further distribution to households.

On 09/05/2020, another 318 Tons of water was transported from Rutland through Barge. As on date, a total of 2949 tons of water has been transported from Hutbay and Rutland Island through vessels and Barge.

Self Help Group

Self Help Groups constituted under the DAY – NULM got an order from the Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ACCI) to prepare 5570 face masks. It is worth to mention that the above stitching activity was completed within a 10 days of time. Further PBMC has awarded to make 5000 more face masks from SHG. PBMC is committed to empower SHG’s.

Port Blair, May 12: Since the beginning of the first lockdown, Pankh, an NGO has been offering its services in helping needy women specially mothers and children in different areas of Port Blair. After publishing the emergency contact no of Pankh in the local newspapers and Doordarshan for approaching it for any assistance during lockdown, numerous phone calls were received seeking help especially from daily wage workers and migrant labourers.

Responding to these phone calls Pankh reached out to these people from different areas like Nayagaon, Bargadhline, Garacharma (2/18, Abdul Kalam lane), Dairy farm & Haddo ward number 1&2 and distributed ration articles, milk, essential hygienic items like soap, detergent and masks.

On the occasion of Mother's day, Pankh reached out to the mothers in different areas and distributed milk and hygienic items and masks to ensure their safety and good health as they are the ones who take care of the family and many of them are frontline Corona warriors working to ensure our safety. On the occasion of Mother's day Pankh salutes all such women who have risked their lives to protect us from the deadly Corona virus. The President Pankh, Mrs.Komal Anand, Sec Smti Geetha Naveen Bhat, active member Mrs Maria Sheela and the entire Pankh family is committed towards serving the needy people during this Pandemic.

Port Blair, May 12: An Air India Special Cargo Chartered Flight from Chennai with essential medical supplies for the A&N Islands arrived here today at Veer Savarkar International Airport. The A&N Administration has Chartered this flight in view of the outbreak of COVID-19 to transport PPE (Kits), N95 Masks (white), Infrared Thermometer, Testing Equipments and other items in sufficient quantity.

Port Blair, May 12: In view of inclement weather conditions, repeatedly transmission faults are occurring and resulting in heavy disturbances in power supply. The Electricity staffs are working round the clock to resume the supply after rectifying the defects. The major faults noticed are entangling of High Tension & Low Tension Lines. The consumers are requested to bear with us, as we are trying our best to restore the power supply and to provide our best service to the public.

The Electricity Department requests the consumers to inform to the nearest site office if they observe flash, abnormal sound in the Electric System so that the technical team can reach and solve the problem. The falling and snapping of line could be dangerous, hence the citizens are requested that on sighting of such happenings inform the nearest Site Offices, Police Stations, Fire Brigade so that safety measures can be taken. They are also requested not to touch or come near the snapped lines and also not to allow other people and cattle etc. to come near the snapped lines.

The consumers/general public can also inform the aforesaid situation over phone to the respective Junior Engineers/Assistant Engineers/Executive Engineers of the areas or Electricity Control Room Telephone No. 03192-235250, for immediate attention and quick action.

Port Blair, May 12: All staff of “Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas”, Andaman & Nicobar Islands contributed their one day salary amounting to Rupees One Lakh Ninety Two Thousand Eight Hundred Ninety Six towards the Lt. Governor’s Relief Fund, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, today. Separately, on 08.05.2020, Ms. V Geetha Bhai and Ms. D Tamil Selvi, both residents of Shadipur, Port Blair, had contributed a sum of Rupees Five Thousand each towards the LG’s Relief Fund.

The students and visitors may call 03192-242888, 230111 for individual specific problems.   Visitors having obtained Appointment from Regional Centre Officers, will only be permitted to enter into the office, for face-to-face interaction.   This arrangement will be effective for a few months.

The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers Association, A & N Islands and its Statistical Sub-Committee mourn the sudden demise of Shri T.S.Thulasidharan Nair, Senior Investigator attached to Directorate of Shipping Services. A resident of Dugnabad at Port Blair, Shri Thulasidharan breathed his last during the early hours today (11.05.2020) after a massive heart attack. he was 60 and is survived by his wife and two children. The Association recalls his contributions towards the working of its Statistical Sub-Committee and conveys heartfelt condolences to the bereaved members of his family.
