Car Nicobar, Feb 1: An awareness program on marine turtle monitoring was conducted on 31 January 2024 for the tribal fishers of Perka village, Car Nicobar in continuation with the marine turtle monitoring programs being held at Car Nicobar in the recent past. The awareness program aimed to identify potential resource persons from the Nicobar tribal community who shall act as informants on marine turtle nesting and foraging in the Car Nicobar coast.

It gives me immense pleasure to note that the "World Wetlands Day” is being observed on 2nd February, 2024 in A&N Islands along with the Country and the world on the theme "Wetlands and Human Well being". This theme emphasizes the critical role that wetlands play in ensuring our well-being by providing various ecological and economical services. Celebration of World Wetlands Day helps us to focus our attention to the urgent need to reverse the accelerating loss of wetlands and promote their conservation and restoration.

Port Blair, Jan 31: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is celebrating its 48th Raising Day on 01 Feb 2024. From a modest beginning with just 07 surface platforms in 1978, ICG has grown into a formidable force with 152 ships and 78 aircraft in its inventory and is likely to achieve targeted force levels of 200 surface platforms and 100 aircraft by 2030.

ICG is now considered to be one of renowned Coast Guards in the world due to its achievements and for the efficiency with which it operates its assets in a challenging environment, thereby ensuring round the clock safety and security. True to its motto “Vayam Rakshamah” meaning “We Protect”, the service has to its credit, saving over 11,554 lives since its inception in 1977 and 200 lives in the year 2023, which translates into saving one precious life every second day.
