Port Blair, Feb 4: The Department of Posts is organizing the Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter Writing Competition for young people. The competition is scheduled to be held on 02.04.2024 at Port Blair Centre.

The subject of the competition will be ‘At 150 years old, the UPU has served people around the world or more than eight generations. The world has changed enormously since then. Write a letter to future generations about the world you hope they inherit’. Children up to the age of 9-15 years as on 31-03-2024 can participate. The composition must be presented in the form of letter not exceeding 800 words on the given subject. The letter may be written either in English or in any Regional language listed in the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India.

Port Blair, Feb 4: With a view to promote good nutrition amongst the Islanders, the ICDS Urban Project under Directorate of Social Welfare will be organizing a 'Food Mela' at Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School from 3 pm to 8 pm on Feb. 10, 2024.

In this regard, the Directorate of Social Welfare has invited applications from Self Help Groups (SHGs), NGOs, and Anganwadi workers/ Anganwadi Helpers to set up stalls to present varieties healthy nutritious dishes. This event aims to create awareness about the importance of day-to-day life nutrition. SHGs, NGOs, and Anganwadi workers will have the opportunity to sell their culinary creations, contributing to a vibrant culinary marketplace. Also Health Baby Show and Rangoli competition will be organised.

Port Blair, Feb 2: The Indian Coast Guard celebrated its 48th Raising Day on 01 Feb 24 and organised various events to mark this momentous day. A series of run-up events were organised during the month of Jan 24 to ensure mass awareness about ICG. The events included coastal cleanup, school visits, bicycle rallies, painting and quiz competitions, blood donation camps and special Community Integration Programmes (CIPs).

Port Blair, Feb 4: As per the instructions of Election Commission of India, in view of the upcoming General Elections to Lok Sabha 2024, a UT level awareness programme on Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) is underway to provide citizens with a firsthand experience of the voting process and familiarity with the machines.

As per the schedule, the Mobile Demonstration Van today visited the Polling Stations 162, 163, 191, 192, 193, 194, 284, 285 & 286 to create awareness among general public about the basic features of EVMs & VVPATs.

Port Blair, Feb 2: The newly established Anti-Narcotics Police registers its first case. In continuation of its fight against drugs, acting on a specific intelligence input, Police Team from Anti-Narcotics Police Station and PS CCS, CID Unit consisting of SI P. Moideen Kutty, PC M. Raja Rao, PC Vishal Kumar and LPC Nandita under the supervision of Shri Vinay Mathur, DANIPS, Dy. SP, Narcotics intercepted one person namely Nantu Kumar Mondal S/o Shri. Ashok Mondal (35) yrs, Pvt. Worker R/o Bhatubasti near Saw Mill, Permanent Resident: Gobradan, Purba Medinipur, West Bengal who had arrived at Port Blair from Kolkata on 02/02/2024 by Vistara Airline Flight. Total 75 grams of Ganja which was clandestinely concealed in his bag, was seized from him and the said person was arrested on the spot observing all codal formalities.
