It’s not just rising number of COVID-19 Cases; It’s allowing to form new Clusters which has triggered the panic button

Port Blair, July 1: One silly step by the A&N Islands Administration and the A&N Islands, which was declared COVID-19 free, has started forming clusters. It’s not just the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the islands, but it’s the forming of new clusters, which seems to be worrying the islanders.

According to the recent reports, as many as five clusters have been formed, which includes parts of Prothrapur, (Vivekananda & Vinayak Colony), Prem Nagar (part), Shore Point (Part) and Garacharma (Naushad Colony).

In a surprising move, the A&N Administration which once decided to modify the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the Home Ministry to ensure restriction of COVID-19 in the islands, had decided to let the passengers arriving in the islands to opt for self-monitoring. This move is not only considered to be silly by the islanders but comes as a rude shock and is spreading panic in the society.

The number of active cases had crossed the figure of 50 couple of days ago, which is all time high in the island territory. Though there are claims of monitoring suspected cases, the fear is the asymptomatic cases spreading the virus, who have already arrived in the islands and more who are expected. The only relief as of now for the islanders is that there are no deaths recorded due to the pandemic.

It’s high time that the authorities in the A&N Administration to start thinking for the welfare of the islanders instead of treating them as guinea pigs, meant to be experimented.
