Port Blair, Oct. 20: The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, A&N Islands organized a mass demonstration at Tiranga Park, Port Blair today demanding immediate declaration of Bonus to Government employees and workers.

The protest demonstration was organized as a part of nation-wide programme at the call of the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees and workers, New Delhi to observe November 20 as ‘Grant Bonus Day’. Normally, every year the Central Govt. announces bonus to its employees by the second week of October. This year’s bonus is not yet declared by the Central Government, resulting in protest programmes all over the country by employees and workers.

Addressing the participants Shri T S Sreekumar, General Secretary of the Association said that the bonus given every year to Government employees is a product of historical struggles including the strike by railway employees in 1974. Any attempt to deny bonus, which they are getting uninterrupted from 1978, under any pretext cannot be tolerated.

He appealed the Central Government to declare the bonus immediately and said such an action will ensure the much needed cash flow to the market. Shri R Rajendran, President of the Association and other office bearers including R Papa Rao, S L Vinjit, Biswanath Mondal, R Surendran Pillai, H B Choudhary, Usha Rajendran, R K Nag,U Shivkumar etc. led the demonstration.
