Port Blair, Dec. 3: The Andaman & Nicobar UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights is functioning in these islands with mandate to safeguard Child Rights and to take up programmes for disseminating information on child rights and their protections.

The Commission had organized a Virtual Contest for the children in the online mode  to observe “International Child Rights Day” in the month of November.

Students of class I to V participated in the Painting Contest on the theme ‘Back to school after COVID-19’.

Students of class VI to IX participated in Short Speech Contest on the topic “My Experience at home during Lockdown period of the COVID-19’ sent in the form of Video Clips.

Students of class X to XII participated in Poem Composition contest on the subject “My Rights as a Child”.

All the entries were submitted through Whatsapp and there was an overwhelming response with seventy five entries for Painting, fifty for speech and thirty six for Poem. Entries were received from all corners of the Islands as far as from Rangat & Campbell Bay.

The panel of eminent judges consisted of: Mrs. Rashida Iqbal, Assistant Director, Deptt. of Art & Culture, Shri. Mahananda Gomasta, Sr. Artist/Designer Dte. of  IP&T and Shri. Sanjib Roy, Editor, Andaman Sheekha.

It was indeed tough for the Judges to judge the entries as all the entries were of great Quality and in fact all the children actually come out as winners. Yet for sake of the final result the Top Three Entries in all the categories were as follows.

Painting                

1st - VASHNAVI SINGH, CLASS IV MGIS, PORT BLAIR

2nd - ALIZA ANSARI, CLASS I. NCS, PORT  BLAIR      

3rd - ASHRIEL AMY D’SOUZA, CLASS II, SSS CARMEL, PORT BLAIR

Speech 

1st - VRIDHI NAIR, CLASS IX, NCS PORT BLAIR

2nd - JUHI JUSSAL, CLASS VII, NCS PORT BLAIR

3rd - MOUSHAMI, GSSS VIJAYANAGAR

Poem    

1st - R. SHREYA FLORINA, CLASS XI, SSS CARMEL, PORT BLAIR        

2nd - ANKITA DASS, CLASS X, ST. MARYS, PORT BLAIR

3rd - KAJAL, CLASS XI NCS, PORT BALIR

All the prize winners will be felicitated in a small function organized by the Commission some time later during this month. The Commission congratulates and appreciates the efforts of the entire group of children whose participation despite these tough times made this initiative successful and meaningful. The Commission has also thanked all the School Principals, Teachers & Parents without whose support the children could not have submitted their entries.
