Scheme to be Available in All FPS by 15th Dec.

Port Blair, Dec. 3: One Nation One Ration Card is the scheme introduced by the Government of India to provide highly subsidized food grains to the people covered under National Food Security Act 2013. As per this scheme the beneficiaries can obtain their entitled quota of food grains from any Fair Price Shop in the country through National Portability. This is an important step towards strengthening the National objective of ensuring food security to the people. This will ensure food security to the beneficiaries who migrate from one place to another or during national disaster/pandemic like COVID which affects the movement of people to different places in the country.

Despite the remote location of these Islands, challenging topographical conditions and connectivity issues, the A & N Administration taking a leap forward has already implemented this scheme w.e.f. 30.11.2020. Through this scheme the beneficiaries will be able to obtain food grains from any FPS located in this UT. In addition to this, the NFSA beneficiaries will be able to obtain their entitled quota of food grains from any other locations in Country. This facility will also be available to the migrant labourers arriving in these Islands who can also obtain their entitled quota of food grains at highly subsidized rates. The scheme has been implemented in 50 Fair Price Shops in this UT on 30.11.2020. This scheme shall be implemented in all the Fair Price Shops of these Islands by 15.12.2020. It is expected that this shall be a historic step towards providing food security to the people.
