Port Blair, Dec. 9: The Nicobar District Police is committed to curb the menace of illicit distillation of liquor and smuggling of IMFLs in tribal reserved islands and to prove their commitment sharp vigil is being maintained at all entry points to these islands and intelligence is being developed to check smuggling.

On 9th December, 2020 at 0500 hrs intelligence was received from reliable sources regarding arrival of huge quantity of IMFL in vessel MV Chuglam from Port Blair via Campbell Bay. On the above information a team of police personnel comprising SI Calvin, Head Constable K.P Minj, Constables Devesh Singh, Sanoj Kumar, Ganga Rao, Emmanuel, Magnes, Annie Grace and HG Abdul Sajid under the command of Inspr. Sahil Shamsuddin, SHO PS Car Nicobar immediately swung into action and reached Mus Jetty.

After observing all codal formalities entire vessel from Bridge to Keel was searched. During search of cargo hold 05 Nos. suspected cartons were found with Mark “CK” on each. The owner of cartons were summoned on the spot and in his presence the cartons were opened one by one. 100 bottles of company sealed Indian Manufactured Foreign Liquor was recovered from the 5 cartons. All the recovered liquor bottles were sealed and taken in custody under the cover of seizure memo and the owner of the cartons, accused C Karthigeshan, resident of Perka village, Car Nicobar was arrested on the spot.

In view of the ongoing festival season it is anticipated that smuggling of liqour in these sensitive islands may occur, general public is hereby requested to pass credible information, if any, regarding import/smuggling of liquors and illicit distillation, if noticed in these islands.
