Port Blair, March 29: Under the aegis of Andaman and Nicobar Command, Coast Guard District Headquarters at Diglipur conducted special ‘Community Interaction Programme (CIP)’ for fishing community of Durgapur, on 27 Mar 2022. The CIP was conducted in co-ordination with Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, along with reps of department of Revenue, Forest, Fisheries, PMF and Gram Panchayat (Durgapur). During the community interaction program, the fishermen were appraised on, the safety aspects while operating at sea, importance of adhering to weather warnings and contribution towards coastal security by passing timely inputs to ICG / PMF, on poaching / suspicious activities noticed at sea. Use of toll free number ‘1554 for seeking Coast Guard assistance for ‘Search and Rescue’ at sea, was also reiterated.

A ‘Multi- specialty Medical Camp’ in conjunction with Community Health Center (Diglipur) and local ASHA workers was also undertaken as part of this CIP. During the camp, the Chief Medical Officer, CHC Diglipur, delivered an elaborate lecture on ‘Prevention and Management’ of ‘Tuberculosis’. As part of Govt of India initiative, an Oath was also administered to all participants for abiding by all Government guidelines for making ‘TB Mukt Bharat’ during the camp. Screening of villagers for ‘non communicable diseases’ was also undertaken free of cost during the camp. First hand training on CPR, First Aid, Fracture management and Snake Bites, was also provided to the participants.

The conduct of this special Community Interaction Programme and Multi-Specialty Medical Camp by Coast Guard was greatly welcomed by the fishing community and was a huge success.
