Anchipaka, Hari Kallikkat, Yashaswini and Kalaivanan Share Their Experiences with Students
Port Blair, April 4: The Model Career Centre which is function under aegis of Department of Labour, Employment and Training today organised a Career Guidance Programme for the first time of this kind on the topic of “Civil Services Examination”. The aim was to educate the students and aspirants of the Islands about the syllabus, strategy and methodology to crack these exams. The programme was organised at the Tagore College of Education Auditorium on 04.04.2022 in which more than 350 aspirants of different colleges, schools and other interested youths of the Islands participated.
The occasion was graced by Shri Suneel Anchipaka IAS, DC (SA) & Secretary (RD & PRI) as the Chief Guest while Shri Hari Kallikkat IAS, Secretary (L&ET) & ADM (SA), Shri R.Kalaivanan IPS, ASP (SA) and Kum. B. Yashaswini, IAS, AC (U/T) presided over the programme as facilitators.
Addressing the gathering, Anchipaka explained that the sole objective of this orientation programme is to motivate the aspirant students of these Islands to achieve success in civil services exam. He expounded that the civil services exam is considered as one of the challenging exam in the country and it is not only because of the knowledge in the variety of subjects being tested but also because of test of perseverance, dedication, discipline, and determination. Among other challenges sustaining motivation during preparation is the key determinant of the success in civil services exam. To succeed in the exam, one must have a proper plan and executable preparation strategy. An executable strategy acts as a constant motivator for the aspirants of the civil services. He appealed to the participants to draw up right plan and believe in smart work to crack the civil services exam.
Shri Hari Kallikkat briefed comprehensively about the pattern of civil services exam i.e. preliminary, mains and interview being conducted by the UPSC. He spelt out that one must start preparation in advance strictly as per syllabus provided by the UPSC to clear preliminary and mains exams besides reading and noting national daily newspapers, especially editorial columns apart from perusal of NCERT text books from 6th std. to 12th std. There are several myths that only toppers can crack the civil services exam but the fact remains that even a dedicated aspirant can crack the same with adequate dedication. He emphasized that the civil services exam would not test academic brilliance beyond syllabus but would test your perseverance, adaptive skills, courage and positivity and never say die attitude to name the few. One should meticulously allocate sufficient time for each test since the beginning of preparation and the same shall be regular and steadfast. The civil services render ample opportunities to serve disadvantaged sections of the society thereby to get sense of utmost job satisfaction.
Kum. B Yashaswani IAS, AC (U/T) elucidated that it is ideal to read current affairs in the morning, prelims in the afternoon, study for optional subject in the evening and round it off with Mains subject at night and one must evaluate their preparation at regular intervals. Sufficient time needs to be spared for testing through practice and mock interviews at regular intervals, which will act as a feedback mechanism in rectifying mistakes. One should keep in mind that bookish knowledge is not sufficient to clear the exam as the recruitment process is designed to test endurance, discipline and self-belief.
Shri R. Kalaivanan IPS, ASP (SA) explicated that the UPSC conducts the Civil Services Exam to recruits suitable candidates for IAS, IPS, IFS and other allied services. Lakhs of aspirants apply for the exam, yet only a few achieve the feat therefore the aspirants of civil service must develop the source of inner motivation and inner resistance and resilience. To achieve success in civil service, a plan of action designed to achieve a long term aim is necessary. The only secret formula for success in civil service exam or any other competitive exam is consistent and focussed efforts.
The achievements of IAS officers who made significant social changes in society was displayed in the mode of standees in the Tagore college of education auditorium to motive the students to venture in to the civil services.
At the end of the program, the aspirants and teachers from various schools/colleges expressed their gratitude for conducting such beneficial program and requested to conduct the same at regular intervals to which Shri Hari Kallikkat IAS, Secretary (L&ET) gave instructions to the department accordingly.
