Port Blair, Sept. 5: Shri Vishal Jolly, National Executive Member BJP & Former State President BJP – A & N islands demanded to declare 08th September as Public Holiday on account of Onam Festival in letter addressed to Chief Secretary, A & N Administration today.
In his letter he mentioned that as the Onam festival will be celebrated on 08th Sept, 2022 in these Islands by the members of Malayalee Community, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration has considered the aforesaid date as Restricted Holiday vide notification dated 24th August 2021.
Jolly wrote that the Onam festival is one of the most important festival of the Malayalee Community. This is the lone festival, celebrated by all the Malayalee Communities irrespective of caste and religion with great enthusiasm in these Islands. He therefore requested that the above mentioned date of festival/occasion be considered and declared as Public Holiday in lieu of Restricted Holiday.
