Port Blair, Sept. 6: As part of ‘Clean Coast, Safe Sea Campaign’ launched by GoI, the Tourism Department conducted underwater beach clean-up drive today at Nemo Reef, Swaraj Dweep, a preferred tourist destination for scuba diving frequented by a good number of national and international tourists.     

      More than 50 people including life guards, TSET Members, Diving Association of Swaraj Dweep and Tourism Stakeholders took part in the clean-up drive. The clean-up drive saw participation of more than 20 divers from different Dive Shops.  Around 40 gunny bags of garbage containing plastic bottles, wrappers, glass bottles etc. were collected during the drive from the beach and underwater and transported through the Panchayat for its safe/proper disposal.  Shri Rustam Ali, Incharge, Radhanagar Beach, Swaraj Dweep coordinated the drive while Shri Matthew, Assistant Manager, Tourism, sensitized the beach users/tourists about the fragile ecosystem and sought their cooperation in keeping the beach and underwater clean to prevent litters from affecting marine life.
