Port Blair, Sept. 7: CPI (M) has demanded 5-year upper age relaxation for the Group B Non-Gazetted Posts of Junior Engineers in APWD to enable all the qualified candidates to compete for the posts of Junior Engineer.

In a letter sent to the Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee, while appreciating the decision of the Lt. Governor to allow a one-time upper age relaxation for the over-aged candidates for the Group C posts recently, said that it was after several years that the APWD has now advertised some posts of Junior Engineers (Group B Non-Gazetted). He submitted before the Lt. Governor that a large number of qualified candidates possessing B.Tech degree and Diploma in Engineering, who became over-aged due to passage of time without getting any opportunity to participate in any recruitment examinations for the posts of Junior Engineer, are unable to apply for these posts. He informed the Lt. Governor that if these candidates having Engineering Degree/Diploma do not get a chance to compete for the posts of Junior Engineers advertised by the APWD now, there is little chance for them to get a government job.

Ayyappan further informed the Lt. Governor that the upper age limit prescribed for the post of Junior Engineer in APWD is 30 years, while in CPWD, as per the Recruitment Rules published on 20th March, 2013, the upper age limit for the post of JE is 32 years. Since the last date for submitting the application is 16th September, 2022, he urged the Lt. Governor an early action in the matter.
