Port Blair, Dec 30: The 79th anniversary of the hoisting of the National Tri-colour for the first time on the Indian Soil by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was celebrated today. It was on this day i.e. December 30, 1943, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose had hoisted the National Tri-Colour for the first time at Port Blair, declaring the Islands, the first Indian Territory freed from the British rule.

To mark the Day, a State Level function was organized by the Department of Art and Culture at Flag Point this morning, in which the Hon’ble Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Bharati P. Pawar and Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency hoisted the National Flag amidst patriotic fervour. The Flag hoisting function was attended among others by the Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Shri Nikhil Kumar, Adhyaksha, ZPSA, Smt. Pramila Kumari, Chairperson PBMC, Smt. Kavitha Udhaya Kumar, Senior Officers of A&N Administration, prominent citizens, tourists and general public.
