Port Blair, Feb 27: A delegation of Bhartiya Janata Party led by its State President, Shri Ajoy Bairagi along with Shri M.Vinod, State Vice President, BJP and other elected representatives of Shaheed Dweep, Smti Pinky Das, Pradhan, Smti Champa Das, Panchayat Samity Member and Pramukh, and Shri Dasrat Verma, Zilla Parishad Member called on Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration today at his office to discuss various issues pertaining to Shaheed Dweep Island.

During the meeting, the delegation discussed several issues related to the development of Shaheed Dweep Island, including the restarting of RO plants at Laxmanpur and Ram Nagar, improvement of roads, passenger waiting shed at Shaheed Dweep harbour, and the release of funds to PRIs for undertaking development activities.

The delegation also highlighted the recent incident of kidnapping attempt of Andaman’s budding cine artist Anusheel Chakrabarty. The 29-year-old actor was kidnapped and a ransom of Rs 20 lakh was demanded from his family. However, Anusheel Chakrabarty managed to escape the bid and complained to the police. The police have arrested one accused but another is absconding. The family members are still receiving threatening calls from the absconding accused.

The family feels that the enquiry is not being conducted as it should be and has urged the Chief Secretary to take necessary action.

The Chief Secretary has assured the delegation that he will provide all possible support to the family of Anusheel Chakrabarty and has agreed to speak to the Mumbai Police officials for speedy action in arresting the main accused.
