Port Blair, April 16: The Department of Disaster Management under the guidance of Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Disaster Management), A&N Administration, regularly conducts various disaster preparedness programmes in different Departments and institutions of this UT. In continuation to this, a sensitization programme was organized for the Students of 2nd Year (MBBS) of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) on Disaster Management & Preparedness recently at the Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration.
Shri Janik Ram, Assistant Director (Admn.), DDM interacted with the students and briefed about the various types of disasters and vulnerability profile of this UT. Dr. Swapan Kumar Biswas, Sr. Consultant, DDM elaborated on various preparedness mechanisms of community as well as institutions to respond by themselves during emergencies or crisis and functions of Disaster Management and State Emergency Operation Centre of this UT and he also explained the different aspects of disaster management.
