Port Blair, April 17: The Annual Conference of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands was held at Atul Smriti Samity Hall, Port Blair on 16.04.2023. Shri M.S.Vengatesan, President, Income Tax Employees’ Federation, CHq., New Delhi inaugurated the Conference. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Vengatesan criticized the present government’s retrograde policy to privatise all the government establishment while lakhs of posts in government departments are not being filled due to which the youths are unable to get jobs timely. He discussed in detail about the Confederations fight for various genuine demands of government employees including repealing of NPS and introduction of Old Pension Scheme. He informed that Confederation is going to intensify their struggle for the Introduction of Old Pension Scheme for all the govt. employees throughout the country. He urged all the employees under NPS to remain united in the fight for scrapping the NPS and introduction of Old Pension Scheme.

Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Shri Clement Stephen, Chairman, Reception Committee enlightened about the glorious history of the NGOs’ Association and the struggles made by the leaders like Com. PKS Prasad for the benefits being enjoyed by the employees of these islands. Shri R.Papa Rao, President of the Association in his address appealed all the members of the Association to strengthen the one and only recognised Association of these Islands for the upcoming struggles. Shri D.Ayyappan, Former General Secretary of the Association; Shri P.Sathyapal, Former President, NGOs’ Association; Shri R.Surendran Pillai, President, CITU; Shri S.P.Kalairajan, Circle Secretary, BSNLEU also spoke on the occasion and conveyed their greetings to the Association for organising this Annual event successfully. The Association also honoured 02 former leaders Shri P.Sathyapal and Shri Clement Stephen by presenting mementos. A small cultural programme was also presented by members of the Association in the beginning.

The Conference continued with the Delegate Session which started with the General Secretary’s report which was presented by Shri R.Rajendran while Shri E.A.Johnson, Finance Secretary presented the Audited Account for the year 2021 and 2022. General Secretary’s report contained an overview of the International, National, Local situations and details of the programmes conducted by the Association during the intervening period. Delegates from various Branches and Sub-Committees actively participated in the discussion on the General Secretary’s Report and Audited Accounts which were later on adopted unanimously. The representatives of Branch/Sub-Committees under this Association also briefed about their activities during the intervening period.  The draft resolutions on various issues and problems affecting the government employees were presented in the meeting which was adopted after addition of various other resolutions made by the delegates during the discussion. About 100 delegates and observers from various outstations and Port Blair/South Andaman, representing thousands of employees, attended the Delegate Session. A presidium comprising Shri R.Papa Rao, Shri R.D.Yadav, Shri H B Choudhary and Smt. Suma Nair conducted the proceedings of the Delegate Session.
